This picture is a little over a week old but it is so cute I just had to share. The puppies are growing and becoming more steady on their feet. They now play and growl and slip-sliding across the newspaper. Maia has more pictures in this post if you would like to see more puppy pictures. It is hard to believe that they were born more than a month ago now.
Speaking of Maia, I decided to knit her Big Bag pattern (pdf) as a way to take a break from my other knitting. Maia regularly uses hers as her project bag that she brings with her when she goes out so I have had multiple opportunities to admire it in person. I finally decided to make one for myself.
Maia used Harrisville wool for her version. I decided to use Cascade 220 because I had some on hand and could easily get a few more colors for my version. If you are going to make this pattern with
Cascade 220 be forewarned that you will need more than one skein of color #1 and you will barely squeeze by with one for color #3, at least at the gauge I am knitting it at.
This is a very fast and satisfying knit. I cast on the base Wednesday night and the picture at left was taken on Friday morning. I am looking forward to finishing this so I can have a fun new project bag. I think I am going to line it, put a pocket and a rigid base in it. Does anyone have any good tips for figuring out how big (what shape) a lining to put into something like this? What I was planning on doing was after it was felted tracing around it on some newspaper before cutting any fabric. Opinions welcome!
Recently I finished this sample for my local knitting shop. It is a scarf knit length-wise in linen stitch using the three yarns pictured at The yarns (from top to bottom) are a Louisa Harding yarn (can't remember which, sorry!), Classic Elite Lush , and Colinette's Giotto. I think the scarf turned out really nice with the yarns the owner picked out. I was wondering what it would be like to do something like this for the body of a felted bag. Might have to play around with that...
Now I am knitting a baby sweater out of Lanaknit's Hemp Yarn in color 'Sprout'. I have the back and one of the fronts done but I didn't bother taking a picture because they just look like green blobs right now. I'll show a picture of the finished sweater. The only hitch is I miss placed the needles I was using for the project. Such a pain!
The other things I have been knitting are samples for the Master Knitter's Program. Maia and I are both doing it. It is interesting, if a bit weird, to be so critical of my knitting. I think these types of programs appeal to the student in me and I like the structure they provide as a means to learning. Otherwise they are a bit silly.
