I finished my step-father's socks last night. They are difficult to get to show well in photos but I will try. I hope he likes them! I am going to give them to my mom today to take home to him. My mom and I are taking a class on making pastry dough today at our local community college. Should be fun but dangerous. I called my mother wondering if I should pack us a lunch and she said that she thought that we would be eating what we make. Mmmm, cream puffs for lunch. Sounds like a tummy ache to me. Regardless I am looking forward to it.
I also took a spinning class on Thursday night where we talked about carding, combing, and flicking as a preparation for fleece. English pitch combs are scary looking but the way they prepare the wool is incridible to spin from. Many of use loved it so mcuch that we suggested that either our teacher have some to rent or that a group of us collectively buy a pair so that we have access to them. If you have never tried fiber from the big combs try it if you get the chance. Just make sure there are no small children running around or other distractions while you are preparing the fiber.
I also really enjoy flicking open the locks and spining directly from the lock that way. I have a dog grooming comb at home and use that to open them up. It is really enjoyable and you can spin long draw or over the fold with the locks. I highly recomend this if you have never tried it.
Last night after finishing my step-father's socks I cast on both pairs of socks for me on my pair of circs. It is a little fiddly at first but you get used to it. Part of the reason I am knitting so many socks is that I am teaching a class in Feb on knitting socks and I wanted to try out different techniques before the class.
Wednesday I also started on the second half of the backyard leaves scarf. It is moving along and I am on my third repeat. I relly enjoy the pattern and would recomend it to others.
Gotta go! I need to go get ready for my pastry class. Have a wonderful weekend!
